What do Visual Merchandisers do?

The job description of a visual merchandiser can be described as creating retail window displays and point of sale arrangements for the department stores. The visual merchandiser takes responsibility for ‘the look and feel’ of the shop. And their primary goal is to promote the merchandise and services in order to maximise sales. In other words, visual merchandising is a lot more than dressing mannequins.

The professionals update the window displays and the themes regularly. They take into account a number of ingredients while deciding on the store themes. The key factors range from the key events in the year, such as Christmas and Easter to the current fashions trends, and from promotions to the sales.

Visual merchandising experts decide how a shop and the merchandise in it are presented. They cover the whole range of tasks; including the design and creation of store window displays as well as ensuring a consistent style and layout inside the store that maximises sales.

Many big retail stores and chains tend to employ a visual merchandising team. However, most of the smaller shop owners and managers either try and take on this role themselves or perhaps employ a professional on a part-time basis. Or, they tend not to spend any time or effort on visual merchandising.

If you are in the third category, you may need to rethink your strategy as there has been a lot of supporting evidence about how much the visual merchandising can help increase your sales and maximise your profits.

Visual Merchandising

Are you aware of the latest trend in the retail industry? Why do you think that the retailers are focusing on developing effective visual merchandising? Why is there such a high demand for the visual merchandisers?

Visual Merchandisers

Particularly in these fragile financial times, the shop homeowners may try to keep away from the designers/ visible merchandisers; fearing further costs. However in actuality, with skilled steering, the retailer can filter out expensive errors and saving time. The article beneath will disuss, intimately, the job of the visible merhandisers.

Visual Merchandizer

In promoting retail products, both the visual merchandisers as well as the show designers utilise their intensive design skills in promoting the products, image and services. In some ways, the roles of display designers and visible merchandisers have a lot in common

Office Rationalisation

Office Refurbishment

With the new austerity measures getting underway, the governmental organisations are not leaving any rock unturned in their quest for saving as much money as they can.
When the economic conditions are tough, the big cost saving items have always been:
  • reducing the workforce,
  • rationalising the office space,
  • a combination of the above 2.
And, in these tough times, the effects of the belt tightening ripples into the commercial organisations as well, who do follow the government's lead in their approach to cost cutting.
As a result, it is clear the cuts will lead directly and indirectly to a drastic reduction in office space requirements, both in the public and the private sector.
As James Arthur Baldwin once said "Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced."
Only those organisations (government or private) that adapt to the economic facts will survive. And, already a number of organisations ( private and public) are planning and implementing extensive projects for office rationalisation with an aim of either terminating their lease early or reducing the vacant office space.
One of the key "enabler" for the office rationalisation has beenthe flexible working, which makes more efficient use of staff time as well as reducing the amount of office space required for the work force.
However, the organisations must comprehend the nature of the office rationalisation work very well. Rushed, and ill planned projects will certainly prove to be counterproductive. They must first analyse the nature of the different activities that their workforce undertake in order to clearly identify where space efficiencies can be realised without disrupting the day-to-day operations.

Unforgettable experience at Cycle Slam 2012

Few months ago, I watched Darren Brown's fantastic program on TV about luck. And, the moral of the story was that people make their own luck. I know it was all smoke and mirrors in a way but it encouraged me to take a chance more often.

Had it not been for that program, I probably wouldn't have met a bunch of fantastic people (and the Mail on Sunday journalist, who joined us for the last day): Mike Elsom, Levent Ural, Michelle Dite, Carmen Rendell, Martin Smith, Richard Eldmann, and the legend himself, Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff. Martin's adventure naturally made mine (and most other people's) effort look like a walk in the park. At the age of 56, he is cycling all the stages with a huge smile on his face. I feel humbled!

We had 2 things in common, raising money for 3 great causes:
  • Dallaglio Foundation
  • Andrew Flintoff Foundation
  • Virgin Unite
And, the desire to enjoy the whole experience, not just the cycling.

What topped it all off was the epic 4th day journey with 190km of ride and 3000m of climb. We we on the roads for 14 hours, and the welcome reception was very emotional. Here's a glimps of what all the other cyclists and support team had done for us:

http://www.yok.to/CvUDlJ

It was a big welcome at Sienna on the finish line as well:

Amazing setting, mixture of tiredness, sore bottoms, exhiriration and sadness and envy for the Stage 3 riders.

We are short of the £2M fundraising target though. So, please donate generously at

Dallaglio Cycle Slam Update

Here we are 5 days before handing in the bike and 12 days before flying out to Italy for the challenge.

Training has been going well with 1850 miles under the belt.

I have already raised £3110 (£3600 with gift aid) with a lot of generous contributions. With the Virgin Media charity matching scheme, I'll be well over the £4000 mark, which is what this is all about.

Now I have to do the real thing soon. Already feeling mentally and physically tired and I want to get the whole thing over and done with. I hope a week of rest will pick me up so that I can really enjoy the experience.

Dallaglio Cycle Slam

The training is going well so far with over 1600 miles under my belt. I am struggling on the climbs a little but never set out to be a "Tour" cyclist.

In case you are wondering, I'm the guys on the left with the blue helmet :)

Dallaglio Flintoff 2012 Cycle Slam update

I have finally reached the total 100 hours of cycling in just over 2 months.

Total mileage is over 1300 miles.

I would like to get 2012 miles under my belt for training and I have exactly 4 weeks till I hand my bike in.

700 miles in 4 weeks! I hope I don't get injured.

You can still sponsor me at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AdilAkkus

Roofing services in Ascot

The roof is one of the most important parts of your property in Virginia Water. A well-maintained roof is very important in protecting your home from the elements as well as maintaining its value.

Many people focus their time and money on refurbishing the inside of their property at the expense of overlooking the essential structure of the building, especially the roof.

Until anybody is exposed to a leaking roof, they don’t understand how this can lead to immediate and long term trouble (for example structural damage). Regular roofing checks should be part of the on-going maintenance of your house.

If the regular checks highlight any concerns about your roof, you should ask a professional to assess the state of your roof. If they will be able to advise to if you need to commission any minor repairs or a more extensive work needs to be undertaken. The roofers can also advise you about what has to be done urgently and what preventative work needs to be carried out in the longer term as well.

If you are unlucky to find yourself dealing with roofing emergencies, such as storm damage, you should definitely consider using a call out service to deal with the situation as soon as possible. As priority, expect the roofing specialists to implement provisional measures in order to protect you and your house. They should then carry out a more comprehensive assessment. This will propose a permanent fix for your roof as well as assisting with any insurance claims you may decide to initiate. Be aware that there is usually a call out charge required for emergencies. However, reputable roofers will not hit you with unreasonable costs.

Dallaglio Flintoff 2012 Cycle Slam update

I've had a good couple of days of training with over 110 miles covered. Especially yesterday, we had some really good hills as well.

The fundraining is going really well too. So far raised over £1600 with a couple of events arranged. There is a coffee morning that Mrs A is organising. And, mid-March there is a cake sale as well. At least 6-7 people have been volunteered for baking cakes.

Dallaglio Flintoff 2012 Cycle Slam update

2 days of commuting into work and back means almost 100 miles.

The total mileage has gone past 475 miles over 3 weeks.

I need to step up the training more considering I only have 11 weeks left. The freezing weather doesn't help the training, but there are not many other options at the moment.

I must also turn up the weekend training rides even though the family commitments haven't helped so far.

The fundraising is going all right as well. The total has just gone over the £1000 mark. But there is still a long way to go. Feel free to help:
